As you can tell, I'm not doing much of anything today - thus all the blog updates!
Ironically, this vacation isn't much on the exotic side. If anything it's a perfect blend of the old and the new for me. There's always a cup of tea right when one is needed, I can get a Crunchie bar at the Pick and Pay, the cars are tiny, and BBC plays on the radio, but along the road is a McDonald's and Judge Judy is still on TV!
And I just got back from the mall yet AGAIN. It's alright though; AJ goes to the gym nearby, so he offered to take me because I've needed to get a decent pair of dress shoes to go with my new suit, and there are several shoe shops around. I went to the mall myself, because I decided to give in and buy a certain Xmas present... (NOT TELLING! Although I will say that I got lucky - today they had a special deal where if you spent X amount you got store credit for Y which got me two other items I don't really need... lol)
ANYWAY, I'm not sure about the shoes I bought. They fit alright, and are comfy and nice looking, but I have no idea if they'll last. The soles are weird, thick rubber (so they give me about an extra inch of height) and will either last a long time or last ten minutes on the pavement. I have no idea if they go with the suit either, they're just black... and cost me some R350 (ie. $35) Well that's way better than the $150 I narrowly avoided at the mall in Dallas but still a lot for shoes for me, so I really hope they're good and they last.
They're Grasshoppers brand ("proudly South African") and tout themselves as "the most comfortable shoes ever made" and Tony tells me they are a good reliable shoe, so we'll see. Hope it's money well spent. If they're as good as they seem to be I'll be happy to wear them on the flight home.
Ugh! No more spending money for me! I still have more than three weeks left here!

$35 for a pair of shoes that last you one event/day is a good value. Especially dress shoes, so if they don't hold up like you wanted them to don't worry about it because it was only $35.
