The Waterfront

Today the air was rather close; it wasn't terribly hot (by my standards) but it was definitely humid, which steals the moisture from your body and makes you want to strip out of your slimy skin.

So it was a relief when this evening we decided to go out. Actually we were supposed to go and see lights, but ended up Erica (whose name I have been spelling wrong all this time, buggerall!) was feeling unwell so she and Tony stayed in, leaving AJ and I to go out and find some entertainment. (I was kind of surprised at this, since I thought he was busy, this being Saturday ie. the day before Sunday ie. a major work day and all.)

I couldn't make up my mind until the last minute whether I wanted to go to "Canal Walk" (a huge shopping center) or The Waterfront (which... is just like what it sounds, and also has shopping). At the last minute I decided we should do the Waterfront.

What a good idea! It was all so beautiful in the dark, and the smell of the sea was absolutely delicious, I nearly had a olfactory overload for a minute. We walked around and AJ showed me shops he wanted me to see (nearly all of which were closed because we came after 9pm...) and then we just walked around and looked at things for awhile.

I decided we should have a prime directive of some kind, and really wanted a drink, especially since we drove right past where the MCQP was going on, and though I'm more decided than ever that tonight was not the night for such madness, I still regret not checking it out. So whatever, I'm legal here, so let's hit a bar and get me something to drink!

It too for bloomin' ever, I tell you what, but we finally settled on a restaurant, sat at the bar, and were presented with a menu that read more like a magazine. I just asked the bartender what he was making in front of him, which were pina coladas and were R45 with alcohol (something like R30 without) and that sounded great.

So we just sat and chatted a bit. Actually, I think I rambled. Sometimes I get a little tongue tied, and the drink didn't do anything to make me relax like a good drink should. (It was yummy though, and well made, I'll give them that.) So I talked about stupid stuff, I'm sure, while AJ just sat there (he's not into drinking, which is fine, but I you know, social stuff. He looked at the desserts momentarily, but the prices were a bit high; fine by me, but I doubted there was any way could convince him to let me buy hime one or I would have offered on the spot - if I knew what he liked, sweetness-wise, I'd have ordered for him, but maybe it's better I didn't).

That was nice, and I managed to order and pay for my first official drink at a bar quite successfully. Even paid a handsome tip, I think... (Well the drink was R45 and I gave the guy R50... that's more than 10% isn't it? So yeah, generous? Well I hope so, the barkeep was a pretty nice guy, and the drink was fine.)

The drive back was nice, the city is really pretty (though extremely flat compared to Dallas - I really love that city's skyline) and it started to rain a bit on way, which just made everything smell glorious as we got back into the house.

And now I am thinking it's time to go to sleep, as I have to figure out what I'm doing for church in the morning.
